Being a young African in a cosmopolitan city in Africa could be an amazing experience but also very difficult if you are just moving from a small town. Nairobi is growing exponentially every year. The population does not only consist of Kenyans but foreigners as well. We are constantly interacting with people of all walks of life who all have different upbringings, different cultures, religions and a different outlook on life. Sometimes, we opt to change who we are to fit in, some people change their accents or even their names. Change is inevitable but we could try holding on to the things that make us Kenyan, like our history.A few weeks ago, Jeff Koinange (talk show host on KTN) talked about Dedan Kimathi, one of the freedom fighters, who is a Kenyan legend. He talked about a few things that I had no clue about. There are so many museums in Nairobi that I have never been to. I heard that there is a sports museum at Nyayo Stadium. I also pass by the National Archives almost every day but cannot tell you what is inside that building. All I know is that there is a lot of Kenyan history stored in one of the most beautiful buildings in the Centre of the city. My non-Kenyan friends know more about Kenya than I do and that must change. Visiting museums and national heritage sites is on my to-do list for the next couple of months. I will get a few friends to join me on my Kenyan History quest.:-)
This week, I gave my images a vintage look in commemoration of all the heroes who came before us and made our world a better place for the African child. The gorgeous black dress I wore on today’s post is by fashion spot boutique .

It’s amazing what we have ‘under our noses’ (sp?) which we seldom get to appreciate, perhaps until it’s taken away from us or until (shamefully) visitors tell us about it. I also recently found out there are like 26 museums in Kenya! Quite mindblwoing. My bucket list just got longer and it didn’t have to leave the borders of my country. Love the post, and the vintage theme you chose for it. Thanks for reminding us.
