I love shoes. If food is the way to a man’s heart, well, shoes are the way to mine. Living in Nairobi does not allow me to wear heels as often due to the countless portholes on the pavements and many people shoving past me as I try to strut in my heels, but i still manage to wear my favorite shoes when I do not need to walk a lot. I try to help friends out from time to time but we all have that one friend who keeps borrowing clothes, jewellery, shoes and bags and never returns them (you know who I am taking about. Right?). Last year my shoe collection went down by half and my blog photo shoots and fashion events are about to start again,I need to have a wide variety of shoes to accomplish different looks with. “Its time to get new shoes” “yei !”. In 2015, I do not want to go for easy and predictable shoes. I want to be trendy and also comfortable. The good thing about this year’s shoe trends is that they are back to the basics. The heels are wider and flats and sandals are also in, making my feet so much happier.
These are the shoes I am looking to buy this year.
The Laser Cut Outs
This trend is amazing on every single type of shoe. You can never go wrong with a bold statement piece like the laser cut out shoe. It accentuates the feet and leaves a lasting impression. Its a good shoe for the hot weather since the cut outs give your feet room to breathe. They come in all colors.
The Pointed Flats
These shoes are totally cute. I remember seeing them last year and I got myself a pair of leopard print color blocked pointed shoes, with a strap and I thought they were so chic, comfortable and effortlessly stylish. Pointed flats can be paired up with about anything. You can wear them to work, on a date, to schools on a night out or a dinner date.Avoid wearing these shoes with a maxi dress/skirt because maxi dresses/skirts already cover enough, putting on a closed shoe will make you look drab.
The knee / thigh high gladiators
Gladiators have been here for the longest time and it is safe to say that they will be here for many more years. This year’s gladiators are a little bit different because they are more geometrical compared to the lace up boots that we have seen before. Designers have focused their attention on various shapes and colors for this trend. I totally love this look because it always gives a simple outfit an edgy look. I would recommend paring these cuties with light material dresses that are above the knee or short shorts. These shoes can also go perfectly with a short button- down dress shirt, which are also very in this year. Avoid wearing these shoes with long dresses or skits or with trousers. You will simply look ridiculous.
The come back of this shoe really surprised me because I have always seen them as older women’s shoes. I constantly wondered what my mum has a never ending collection of the same old boring mules. She tells me that they are comfortable and I should get myself a pair. I have seen this shoes on sale in stores in Nairobi but I never really thought they would look good on me but after seeing countless images of how different people have styled them, I now think that I should revisit the style and give it a shot. When trying this style, stay away from really long trousers/skirts/dresses.Mules look good if there is some space between the shoe and the clothes.
The Burst Of Color
Color blocking changed our view on color forever. Now everything can be color blocked. This year, you will definitely see more color on shoes and this is a good way to draw attention from other parts of your body to your feet. With these shoes, you need to be careful about the outfit you wear because too much uncoordinated color will create a mess instead of a fashion statement.
The platform sandals
I really like these shoes because they are so cute, totally comfortable and they give you height without the pain that comes with high heels. They have graced countless catwalks and they are simply bolder than wedges or flats. Avoid wearing plastic platform sandals because they can be very uncomfortable and painful to stay in for long.
I now have my shopping list. Its time to head out and shop.
